Hi Steve,
After a month of experimentation, my 32 day clock is running in 32 day mode with 10.76 lbs of weight. Fingers crossed, its been running for 2 weeks now from 67F to 71F.
With your improvements with the new 8 day clock, would it be possible to push its run time higher? I would love a 21 or 32 day gear set for some of us who like to tinker.
Thanks, Gary
That's awesome to get 32 day mode for the easy build clock. I ran mine with that configuration for a few months before dialing it back to either 10 or 14 day mode. It is much more reliable now.
There are a few ways to increase runtime on these clocks. The ratios of gears 7/8 or 7/4 can be changed, winding barrel diameter can be changed, or extra pulleys can be added. We should ignore silly solutions like hanging the clock near the ceiling or cutting a hole in the floor to give more drop on the weight shell.
The new 8 day clock does not have room to increase gear 7 or 8 to increase runtime. This only leaves winding barrel diameter or extra pulleys. Both solutions will require more turns when winding the clock. Reducing the barrel diameter is the easiest solution. The lower limit is set by the 3mm rod spacing. It should be possible to double the runtime. I will try to make the edits in a few days. There are a few other requests for this clock that I also want to add.
