Hi Steve and all fellow clock builders,
I built this 32day EasyBuild clock some month ago. It was -> print -> assemble -> put on the wall and it just works. No tinkering, no debugging, nearly boring ;)
As I had printed some other designs before (not from Steve) and had not much success with them. I used the PLA I had on hand (because of the failures before), but I think these simple colors fit this clock quite good.
I just have to find a spot in my house where I can put this beautiful piece of art. My wife likes the clock very much, but she does not like it to tick...tock... all day long in the living room....
and.... next on my bench is the magnetic pendulum clock. Electronics arrived some days ago and as you can see the printer is already busy....
happy clock printing,
Thomas
Very nice color choices.
Looks good. I like the contrasting colors. Ticking clocks bother me when it is a cheap battery movement in the living room, but I don't seem to mind my own clocks ticking 2 feet away next to my computer.
I try to make the clocks as trouble-free as possible. The 32 day clock started as an 8 day design. The pendulum had a really strong swing, so I decided to push the runtime as far as it would go. 32 day mode is more of a challenge for the very adventurous. I run mine in 10 or 14 day mode.
I was also hoping for the electromagnetic clock to be just as trouble-free as the other designs. However, the ratchets do require a bit of fiddling to get them to work reasonably well. And I am not super crazy about the long term stability.
You should really like the upcoming Coup Perdu design. It looks like it may be my most reliable clock. The drive weight is close to the escapement so it only needs a tiny drive weight. And it also has a deadbeat option which is even more stable. The 120 smaller ticks per minute in the deadbeat are a quieter than the Coup Perdu.
